Rebates and Tiered Rewards: How to Read Them Before a Big Garden Purchase
Suppliers offer money back that grows with how much you spend. Tiered schemes are built to move you up a level, so read the thresholds first.
How a tiered rebate works
You receive a percentage or fixed amount back once your spending passes a threshold, and a larger one at the next threshold. The table of thresholds is the whole scheme.
The trap in the middle
Being just below a tier tempts people to spend more to reach it. Work out what the extra spending costs against the extra reward. Often it is not worth it.
Check what counts
- Which purchases qualify.
- Over what period the total is measured.
- Whether the reward is cash, credit or something you must spend with the same supplier.
The same design appears everywhere
Tiered rewards are used far beyond garden centres. A very explicit example, in Traditional Chinese, is this table of daily-stake thresholds and the reward paid at each level on one gaming site (電子投注回饋分級門檻). Seeing a scheme written out that plainly makes the mechanism obvious, and the mechanism is identical when the product is paving slabs.
A simple rule
Buy what the garden needs. If that happens to reach a tier, take the reward. Never design the garden around the rebate.
