Katie Bell

    Graduate Student

Katie Bell is currently a graduate student at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco, studying human and organizational transformation, with a focus on transformative learning. In addition, she acts as a local Facilitator for Pioneers of Change, a global learning community of young people committed to learning and social change. In this role she serves as a local point of contact, coordinator between the local chapter and the global network, and a facilitator prompting activity and conversation in the local network.

With an interest in community-building and collaboration, Katie has acted in a variety of positions in both the public and private sectors. Currently, she acts as an online facilitator for Collaboration Architects, a company that creates blended e-learning solutions for companies in the for-profit sector. Prior to this position, she managed the marketing process and logistics for leadership courses at Dialogos as Marketing Associate. In the non-profit sector, she managed a grant-making program as Program Officer for the Global Fund for Children in Washington, DC, an organization that takes an entrepreneurial approach to advancing the human rights of children and youth worldwide. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Eritrea, Africa she taught English, consulted on curriculum development for the Ministry of Education, and acted as Regional Coordinator for the First Annual Girls’ Conference on Gender Awareness and Education. She holds a Bachelors degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley.

Short Description of Pioneers of Change

Pioneers of Change is an emerging, self-organizing, global learning community of committed, young people, in their mid-20's to early 30's, from diverse cultural, social, and professional backgrounds. Pioneers of Change numbers over 1000 individual pioneers in over 70 countries, who have made a personal commitment to continuous learning in order to build their capacity as agents of social change. Organized in a flexible structure of learning teams, project groups, and local networks, pioneers design, facilitate and participate in a series of learning programs that form the core of the organization’s activities. Pioneers of Change operates with, and encourages, distributed leadership throughout the network, with the role of the more formalized structures within the network being to serve the larger community.
